This month, Powell Valley Electric Cooperative will have its annual meeting. As this important day for our co-op approaches, you may wonder what makes electric co-ops different than other types of utilities. To answer that question, I thought I’d tell you what makes electric co-ops stand out from the rest.

Because we’re a co-op, we operate a little differently than other utilities. Powell Valley Electric Cooperative’s decisions are made locally, by directors who also live right here in our community. When you pay your electric bill each month, your money stays here to pay for the electricity used and make improvements to our local system to strengthen service reliability. Rather than to make a profit, we exist to provide a service to you, our local members.

You may notice that throughout the year, we schedule opportunities for you to attend co-op events, like the annual meeting and member appreciation days, so we can hear from you. Our success lies in your satisfaction, which is why we offer these opportunities to engage and listen to what you have to say.

Because you’re part of an electric cooperative, you can count on our team to maintain local jobs, low-cost electricity and first-class service, no matter what the economy — and supply chain issues — throw at us.

Powell Valley Electric Cooperative strives to keep you, our members, as informed as possible. If you want to receive important information from Powell Valley Electric Cooperative, such as billing updates, sign up for our text message notifications. You can also stay in the know with the Powell Valley Electric Cooperative app, website, Facebook, Twitter and our monthly magazines.

Please know that you — the members of Powell Valley Electric Cooperative — are at the heart of everything we do. We exist to serve you and provide the quality, reliable, friendly service you expect and deserve. This co-op was created for you, and the power is in your hands.
